My wonderful wife Della had her 50th birthday last year, so we decided to celebrate abroad. I wrapped up most of my construction projects for the month, so I was able to get away.
Birthday away from Windsor
It’s always tough to get away from work especially when working in construction. Luckily, both our family’s have roots in Windsor to take care of things while we’re away. Della and I we’re so excited to travel to Myrtle beach, as we both had never visited before. It was a bit of a journey leaving from Windsor, but definitely more convenient. Our flight (Air Canada 8870 – American Airlines 447 – American Airlines 5161) was 7 hours long! Man oh man, maybe next time we’ll consider driving.
The resort we stayed at in Myrtle beach was absolutely fantastic. We stayed at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. This building included a pool, hot tub, beach access, was steps away from the dunes and perfect for a birthday celebration. Although a convenient location, it definitely wasn’t an architectural spectacle. Working as a project manager for so many years, you just naturally look at buildings differently.
Overall, the food served at the resort was heavily influenced by the east coast culture, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The menu included lots of fish of all colours, shapes and sizes but the best dish that enjoyed the most was the Atlantic Salmon (Dish I pinned). Della on the other hand enjoyed the fresh Atlantic Lobster that was caught daily. All the seafood was definitely a treat, as we are living Windsor Ontario, literally 1500 kilometers away from the closest body of salt water.
All good things come to an end. One week away from Windsor was long enough to miss home. It’s not too often we are able to get away, and it definitely was a memorable birthday and vacation for the both of us.
